Simple Homemade Orange Cleaner Recipe
 Living in a house with several pets and children means there is always some
sort of mess for me to clean up. However, I am careful as far as which cleaning
products I use because I do not want to poison the air my family breathes with
harsh, chemical cleaners. Therefore, I use a lot of green, organic cleansers in
my home. One of my favorite multipurpose cleaners happens to be orange cleaner
and although I love the results, I was not in love with the price. Determined to
make my own orange cleaner, I set out to find the best recipe to produce the
same results as the commercial brand. Through trial and error (along with a
little bit of luck) I now make my own multipurpose orange cleaner and you can
too! This recipe is very simple, inexpensive to make and requires almost no
effort at all.
What You Will Need

airtight container - I use an old pickle jar.
- Orange Peels - Only the peels are needed. You will need enough peels to
fill your container. This can be done over a period of several days or even
weeks. Just make sure you freeze your peels until you are ready to use them.
You can also have friends save their peels for you. Naval or Clementine
oranges generally works best.
- Salt
- Cookie sheet
- 1 bottle of white vinegar
- 1 spray bottle - I reused an old one but you can also purchase these at
your local dollar store.

How To Make The Orange Cleaner:

 Remove your peels from your jar or freezer. Place them peel side up (the
orange side) on a cookie sheet.
- Lightly cover the peels in salt. The salt helps to extract the orange
oil from the peel.
- Wait 30 minutes.
- Fill your container with orange peels (see image on right).
- Pour white vinegar into the container with the peels. Use enough to fill
the jar.
- Close the container and allow it to sit, unopened for 2 weeks. The peels
will lose their orange color and become a yellow or golden yellow color.
At the end of 2 weeks, open the jar, remove the peels and set them aside.
Fill your spray bottle half way with the orange/vinegar solution. Fill the
remaining half of the bottle with water. Cap your spray bottle and shake well
before using. If you have extra solution, simply re-insert the peels (you can
reuse the peels twice before they must be thrown out), add more vinegar, close
the jar and save it for later use. Remember the solution must sit for 2 weeks.
This homemade orange cleaner is very inexpensive to make. It is pet, family
and environmentally friendly and can be used to clean a variety of surfaces such
as countertops, wood, mirrors and sinks. It effectively powers through grease
and grime and leaves your home with the pleasant scent of oranges.
