Nice places to visit while in Great Britain

Summer is right around the corner and many people are looking for great getaways. Instead of visiting the same locations, there are a number of places and cities to visit that are not as popular but will provide just the same wonderful vacation as some of the more popular locations. To really enjoy and get the most out of your vacation, here are some places you want to visit before you leave this earth.

England has a number of wonderful places to visit. The country has a lot of historic sites to visit, with some of these sites founded more than 2,000 years ago.

Cambridge University
Located in Cambridgeshire, England, this university is one of the most prestigious universities in the world. More like a small town than a university, Cambridge University offers a wide range of tourist attractions. Although it’s a university, it is one of the oldest centers of learning in the world with one of the colleges located within the university founded in 1284. The university has produced some of the greatest minds in the world, such as John Milton, Stephen Hawkins, Isaac Newton, and Charles Darwin just to name a few of the distinguished alumni. Even today, Cambridge is still producing some of the best students around. The school is constantly ranked among the world’s best universities.

King’s College Chapel, known as one of the most beautiful chapels in the world, is a great historic sight to visit while on the campus. The chapel has a late-Gothic English style design. The adoration of the Magi is a portrait that hangs behind the altar but its looming presence can’t be ignored. Many tourists visit the site during the Christmas season. However as you may have guessed, the lines are extremely long. If you make it to the site early enough during the Christmas season, you may be able to attend a tradition since 1918 of the Festival of Nine Carols and Lessons which are sung by the student choir. It adds to the feel of the Christmas season and the chapel itself.

If you visit during the spring and summer seasons, you will be in for a treat as well. Witness the beautiful and well-groomed emerald lawns that decorate the River Cam. One of the most popular and relaxing activities to engage at the River Cam is floating on a wooden boat operated by a pole. Because there is no motor attached to the boat, the ride is slow and very relaxing.

Other sites to visit while on the campus are the Fitzwilliam Museum. This museum is one of the oldest museums in Britain and home to some of the best public art museums. It holds arts and paintings by everyone from Michelangelo to the French Impressionists. It also has wonderful and intriguing displays of the Titanic.

Your next step is to visit the narrow streets filled bookstores, historic inns and pubs for your enjoyment and relaxation. One pub that shouldn’t be missed is called the Eagle. Students who attend Cambridge University for centuries have gathered at this famous pub as a student hangout. If you are looking for somewhere to stay, try visiting the Hotel du Vin. This is a modernly stylish hotel located in close proximity to everything. If you want to get away from the city, try the Hotel Felix. Completely different from the contemporary Hotel du Vin, the Hotel Felix is a large Victorian-style hotel located a mile away from the center of the town. It has contemporary rooms and a first-rate restaurant.

The City of Chester

Chester is located in Cheshire, England. Chester is a mixture of contemporary and historic styles. It has an English history that goes back 2,000 years ago. This city was an important city during the Roman era. It is home to one of the oldest and largest amphitheaters. The city was also popular during the Middle Ages and the 18-century. The city is still home to a historic fortified wall that was designed during the Roman period. The fortified wall surrounds most of the city. There is a two-mile walking path for those interested in enjoying a nice walk alongside the outskirts of the city. While on the walking path, visitors will pass by the 19th century Eastgate, the home of the famous wrought iron clock tower.

Inside the walls of the city are some of the most beautiful collections of half-timbered buildings and Rows, which are highly decorated two-story buildings that have connecting walkways located above the street. Once you have experienced a full day of history and historic buildings and are looking for somewhere to stay, the best hotel located within the heart of the historic neighborhood is Chester r Grosvenor. The hotel is Tudor-style and is owned by the Duke of Westminister’s Estate. It has a famous restaurant located inside of it called the Simon Radley restaurant. However, if you are looking for a nice place to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city, try the Stone Villa, which is located in the Hoole neighborhood about a mile away from the historic sites. No need to take a taxi either, the walk takes about 15 minutes.

Land’s End
This is a serene location located in Cornwall, England. It’s located at the farthest southwest tip of the English mainland, where the country overflows over the cliffs and off into the Atlantic Ocean. This area is overflowing in history and scenery. Reminiscent of something found in a fairytale, there use to be the location of one pub some time ago, now there’s a theme park located there. The area is home to the castle topped island located in St. Michael’s Mount. An island all its own, St, Michael’s Mount is connected to the main by a thin strip of walkway. The walkway is so small and slender that when a high tide comes, the walkway is completely covered.

If you are interested in climbing St. Michael’s Mount, it’s 250 feet above the sea that completely surrounds it. If you can make it, the view is outstanding. Hidden a few blocks away is the popular Abbey Hotel. To view some of the uninhabited islands in the city, ferries transport visitors back and forth. The area is surrounded by clear and clean beaches, exotic palms, and a deluge of rare sea birds located throughout the islands. If you are visiting England, do yourself a favor and visit Land’s End in Cornwall, England, you won’t be disappointed.
